Brief history of the Winter Olympic Games
Even if there were ice figure skating already in the London Olympics in 1908 and in Amsterdam 1920 together with an ice hockey tournament, the first Winter Olympic Games took place in Chamonix, France in 1924. In the first Games there were Nordic Skiing, Nordic Jumping, Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Ice Hockey, Speed Skating and Figure skating for men, women and pairs.

1924 – 1992 the Olympic Winter Games were arranged the same years as the Olympic Summer Games. From 1994 the Winter Games is arranged every fourth year, two years after the Summer Games.
